The World Council of Churches (WCC) has revealed plans to extend celebrations and events for its 50th anniversary next year and for its 330-plus member Churches to renew their commitment to ecumenism.

Anglican Church leaders from around the Communion have expressed shock and sadness over the news of the tragic death of Diana, Princess of Wales. Prayers were offered for the repose of her soul in parishes around the world and thanksgiving offered for her life and work in Britain and around the world. Of utmost concern to Church leaders was the welfare of her surviving sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

Nearly 200 young people and church youth workers have come to Great Britain in the hopes of having their concerns and ideas shared with the Lambeth Conference in 1998. Representing almost every Province of the Anglican Communion, the delegates come with stories and expectations that are representative of the global nature of the Anglican/Episcopal family of churches. They form what is called the International Youth Network of the Anglican Consultative Council.

I want to concentrate on the question of homosexual practice, fully realising that the Motion goes much wider than this. But it is an important issue, which raises deeper questions about how we do our theology and how we live with differences of opinion.
