The regularly scheduled meeting of the Primates of the Anglican Communion will meet 22 to 29 March 2000 in Oporto, Portugal. The Primates, Archbishops and Chief Bishops of the 38 Provinces of the Anglican Communion, will be hosted by the Rt Revd Fernando Soares

Two priests from the United States were consecrated bishops on January 29, 2000 in St Andrew's Cathedral, Singapore. A press release from an organisation called First Promise in the United States says that these new bishops will be "released to the United States" from Africa and Asia

The Archbishop of Canterbury has expressed his regret that this action has been taken ahead of the meeting of the Primates of the Anglican Communion in March, which will be addressing the matters to which the action relates.
