Speaking today (12th July 2000) on hearing of Lord Runcie's death, the Bishop of Rochester, the Rt Revd. Dr Michael Nazir-Ali, offers his sympathy and condolences to Lady Runcie and her family. Bishop Michael know Lord Runcie well, having been Assistant to the Archbishop from 1986-1989.

Changes in the law in England since 1995 have allowed local authorities to licence premises other than registry offices and religious buildings for wedding ceremonies. This has had a significant effect on how and where couples marry.

The congregation of the Parish of Kinsley and Fitzwilliam had to leave their church building in 1992 when it was declared unsafe. Instead, they met in the church hall, until in 1995 that was destroyed by fire. Since then they have met in the school hall, the local Roman Catholic church, in the vicarage and, when the weather has allowed, on the vicarage lawn.

A new inter-faith quiet room has been opened at Belfast International Airport for the use of travellers of all faiths and none. The room has been provided in co-operation with the airport management by the Northern Ireland Inter-Faith Forum with the support of the Community Relations Council.

At 26, Hosam Naoum is the youngest Anglican priest in the Diocese of Jerusalem, and also its most recent. He was ordained priest in September 1999 and works in the West Bank parishes of Rafedia/Nablus and Zababdeh.
