The World Council of Churches’ commitment to child rights and gender justice is manifested by its support for Together for Girls’ Every Hour Matters campaign, which was launched last week. The campaign aims to increase awareness of the critical importance of quickly accessing post-rape care.

A major international gathering of women is taking place in New York as the UN Commission on the Status of Women hears from communities around the globe on issues of sustainable development and gender-based violence. Amongst those taking part in the event are 22 Anglican women from 18 provinces.

The first all-girl cathedral choir in the southern hemisphere has been launched at St Paul’s Cathedral in Melbourne, Australia. The choir is made up from 18 girls from Lowther Hall Anglican Grammar School and gave a debut performance in the cathedral last week.

The first woman to be ordained a priest in South Africa has died, it has been announced. The Revd Canon Nancy Charton served at Grahamstown Cathedral as a lay minister and Sunday School teacher before being ordained there first as a deacon and then, in 1992, she was one of three women ordained priest by the late Bishop David Russell.

Twenty–five years of women’s ministry in the Church of Ireland has been celebrated at a service in Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin, close to the anniversary of the ordination to the priesthood of Canon Ginnie Kennerley who was ordained in the cathedral on October 21 1990 by Archbishop Donald Caird.
