New Zealand postpones decision on same-sex blessings

The Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia has postponed a decision on whether or not to permit the blessing of same sex marriages until 2018. The proposal had been made by the Church’s “Way Forward” group which had been established by it’s 2014 General Synod.

Church to develop disaster strategy as Pacific islands disappear

The Anglican Church of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia is to establish a “clear resilience strategy” to strengthen its response to future natural disasters in the pacific islands; as researchers announced that five Pacific islands have completely disappeared as a result of rising sea levels.

"Ample discussion needed" before Canada's same-sex marriage vote

When the Anglican Church of Canada’s General Synod meets in July to vote on same-sex marriage, ample discussion time must be provided before the vote is taken, the working group on the marriage canon recommended in a 13 March report to Council of General Synod (CoGS).

Future role of Canadian church in Cuba unclear says Archbishop Hiltz

A year after the Episcopal Church of Cuba voted unanimously to return to The [American] Episcopal Church (TEC) following the normalization of relations between Cuba and the United States, it is still unclear how this will affect the relationship between the Cuban and Canadian Anglican churches, said Archbishop Fred Hiltz, primate of the Anglican Church of Canada.

Canada: Bishops' statement ahead of Synod's same-sex marriage vote

A draft resolution to change Canada’s Marriage Canon to accommodate the marriage of same-sex partners is not likely to pass in the Order of Bishops by the required 2/3rds majority, the House of Bishops have said in a statement. Officials from the Anglican Church of Canada's General Synod have responded to the announcement.

SA bishops: Same-sex couples "full members" of church - no-change on marriage

Anglican bishops from across southern Africa have resolved that gay and lesbian partners who enter same-sex civil unions under South African law should be welcomed into congregations as full members of the church. A document outlining guidelines on members living in same-sex unions will be sent to the church’s ruling body, which meets this year.

New Zealand working group reports on same-gender relationships

In 2014, the General Synod of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia passed a resolution that created a pathway towards the blessing of same-gender relationships while upholding the traditional doctrine of marriage. A working group set up to devise “a process and structure” by which this could happen has today reported.

West African bishops give Ebola briefing to C of E Synod

Three West African bishops have briefed members of the Church of England’s General Synod this week on the Ebola crisis and the role played by the church in tackling it. The Bishops of Bo, Freetown, and Guinea were joined by representatives from the Anglican mission agency United Society and the Anglican Alliance.
