The Bishop of Liverpool, the Rt Revd Paul Bayes, has spoken of the “loss, grief and pain” felt by the victims of the Hillsborough disaster as a jury ruled that the 96 Liverpool FC fans who were killed in a crush at the FA Cup semi-final match against Nottingham Forest in April 1989 were unlawfully killed.

An increase of 50 pence per hour in the national minimum wage that employers in the UK must pay their workers has been welcomed by the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu. But while welcoming the increase, Dr Sentamu has criticised the British finance minister, George Osborne, for branding the increase as a new Living Wage.

In 1950, the Indian government made the Constitutional Scheduled Caste Order to increase rights and improve the lives of previously disadvantaged Dalits; but Christians and Muslims were excluded from the new benefits because both groups reject casteism.
