New Zealand postpones decision on same-sex blessings

The Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia has postponed a decision on whether or not to permit the blessing of same sex marriages until 2018. The proposal had been made by the Church’s “Way Forward” group which had been established by it’s 2014 General Synod.

Church to develop disaster strategy as Pacific islands disappear

The Anglican Church of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia is to establish a “clear resilience strategy” to strengthen its response to future natural disasters in the pacific islands; as researchers announced that five Pacific islands have completely disappeared as a result of rising sea levels.

Task group appointed to maintain conversation amidst deep differences

A task group has been appointed to “maintain conversation” among the Primates of the Anglican Communion as requested by the Primates during their meeting in January. The Primates asked the Archbishop of Canterbury to establish the group as part of their commitment to “walk together” despite “deep differences”.

The week-long biennial meeting of the General Synod of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia gets underway tomorrow (Friday) and amongst the items for debate is the report by the “Way Forward Working Group” on the blessing of same-sex marriages.

War-ravaged northern Iraq needs our help

In August 2014, the Anglican Primate of Australia, Archbishop Philip Freier, together with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, who was visiting Australia at the time, launched Anglican Overseas Aid’s Northern Iraq crisis appeal in August 2014. Australian Christian leaders oppose aid budget cut

The Primate of the Anglican Church of Australia, Archbishop Philip Freier, has joined the leaders of 12 Christian denominations in a letter to government Treasurer Scott Morrison, in which they call on the federal government not to proceed with the scheduled $224 million Australian Dollars cut to the country’s aid budget.

Anglican Consultative Council pass 45 resolutions by assent

The Anglican Consultative Council meeting in the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka, Zambia, last week has approved 45 resolutions on issues relating from intentional discipleship to the continuing detention of Pakistani Christian Asia Bibi; and from gender-based violence to the environment.
