The Secretary General of the Anglican Communion has attended the consecration of the Very Rev. Robert P Price as Bishop Coadjutor for the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas. Held on September 6, the consecration took place in the Ascension Chapel at Church of the Incarnation. The Secretary General also attended a reception afterward for the local community to welcome the newly consecrated bishop.

The Chief Consecrator at the service was Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, the Most Reverend Sean Rowe.

Bishop Coadjutor Robert P. Price was elected by the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas on May 3, 2025 on the second ballot at a special convention that took place at St. Michael and All Angels in Dallas, Texas. He was chosen from a slate of three nominees, including the Rt. Rev. Fraser Lawton, assistant bishop in the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas; and the Rev. Bill Carroll, rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, Longview, Texas, in the Diocese of Texas. . Price was previously the dean of St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Dallas.

In a statement made to the election convention in May, Price said: ‘Thank you for your faith and your trust in me.’ He added, ‘I look forward to working with you all. Let me say clearly, I need your help to do this wonderful work.’

Speaking about the consecration of Bishop Price, the Right Revd George Sumner said: “Rob Price has demonstrated gifts for pastoral leadership both as Dean, and in his time moonlighting as Canon to the Ordinary during the pandemic. We are excited to see what opportunities for mission Holy Spirit will be opening up for him and our diocese here in north Texas in the years to come.”

The Secretary General’s attendance at the consecration on September 6, was part of a wider weeklong visit to Dallas. Bishop Anthony Poggo has spent time meeting with diocesan clergy, church communities and supporters of the Anglican Communion.

Expressing his joy at attending the consecration, Bishop Anthony said: ‘It has been wonderful to attend the consecration of the Very Rev Rob Price today. May God strengthen and envision him, as takes up this important ministry. We assure him of our prayers and support and give thanks for the diverse ministry in the Diocese of Dallas. I have enjoyed meeting with so many people and church communities during my visit this week.

‘I would also like to express my appreciation for the ministry and service of Bishop George Sumner. He is a faithful leader and friend to the Anglican Communion. It was a joy to serve with him in delivering the Lambeth Conference in 2022.’

The Bishop of Dallas, the Right Revd George Sumner, said: 'We in Dallas are delighted to welcome Bishop Anthony Poggo, General Secretary of the Communion, on the occasion of the consecration of our bishop coadjutor, Rob Price. His integrity, strategic vision, and his heart for the Gospel shine through. He reminds us tangibly that we are part of a family drawn from "every family, language, people, and nation".'
