On 24th March, at St Martin-in-the-Fields in London, Kathleen Snow was formally commissioned as Worldwide President of Mothers’ Union, a global movement of four million members, by the Most Revd Stephen Cottrell, the Archbishop of York.
Archbishop Stephen reflected on the occasion, saying: "It was a real joy to commission Kathleen Snow as the new Worldwide President of Mothers’ Union today. Members across the world are united in their desire to make a difference in daily lives, bringing the hope and love of God in practical ways."
After 37 years as a member, including the last six years on the Worldwide Board, Kathleen felt called to serve and was elected through a global vote to lead the 149-year-old movement.
Speaking at the service, Kathleen Snow shared her motivation to take on this role: "We are stronger together. These words have been on my heart since I felt the calling to stand for Worldwide President. Mothers’ Union is more than an organisation—it is a way of life, a family of faith. Through our shared prayer and support, we grow together, answering Christ’s call to ‘Come, follow me.’"
As Mothers’ Union moves towards its 150th anniversary in 2026, Kathleen and her board will lead under the theme "Join Us, Join In!"—a call to action to grow the movement in faith, fellowship, and funds to end poverty, injustice and violence for communities and families around the world.
The Right Revd Emma Ineson, Bishop of Kensington and Central Chaplain for Mothers’ Union Worldwide, delivered the address during the commissioning service, emphasising the need for unity and service:
"During this special service, we celebrated the power of community, faith, and action in growing God’s kingdom. As we embrace our theme, ‘Join us, Join in,’ John 15:1-12 reminds us that true change begins by being ‘Joined up’—rooted in Jesus, the true vine. Together with Him, we can be a force for transformation, strengthening families, communities, and faith."
Archbishop Stephen echoed this sentiment, encouraging wider support for the movement: "I encourage everyone across the Anglican Communion to explore how they can support the amazing ministry of the mighty Mothers’ Union."
Alongside Kathleen Snow, the new Worldwide Trustee Board was also commissioned. Representing the diversity and strength of Mothers’ Union’s 4 million members in over 84 countries.
With a new Worldwide President, a committed board, and a renewed focus, Mothers’ Union is set to continue its mission of faith-driven transformation, strengthening families and communities around the world and working towards ending poverty, injustice and violence.
