The Right Reverend Martyn Snow has been ordained and consecrated as the new Bishop of Tewkesbury by the Archbishop of Canterbury at Westminster Abbey.

Bishop Snow, 45, was formerly the Archdeacon of Sheffield and has also worked for the church in West Africa.

The appointment which he described as a "privilege and honour" has made him the youngest serving Anglican Bishop.

"I'm hugely looking forward to getting to know the people and places of Gloucester Diocese," said Bishop Snow.

"I will have much to learn both about the customs and traditions of the area."

The role, which covers the whole of Gloucestershire and beyond, will also see him acting as an assistant to the Bishop of Gloucester, the Right Reverend Michael Perham.

He will begin in the post in October.

The former Bishop of Tewkesbury, the Right Reverend John Went, stepped down in March after 17 years in the role.
