At least $25 million is expected for Bishopscourt, the Anglican Church's historic Sydney mansion, which has finally hit the market more than half a century since the diocese first flagged a sale.
Billed as Sydney's highest-profile residential listing this year, the imposing 15-bedroom Darling Point mansion on 6216sq m has attracted strong local interest.
"When fully restored, Bishopscourt would undoubtedly sit with only a handful of similar properties anywhere in Australia," said selling agent Craig Pontey, of Ray White Double Bay, yesterday.
"It is liveable, (but) someone will want to refurbish it to today's standards," Mr Pontey added, noting that the sprawling mansion had up to three kitchens and six bathrooms.
Bishopscourt's previous occupant, Archbishop Peter Jensen, moved out when he retired in July.
The new archbishop, Glenn Davies (previously the bishop of North Sydney for 12 years), will continue to reside on Sydney's north shore until a new residence is secured.
