A Crewe church is to put £20,000 into the accounts of two local credit unions
– putting into practice what the Archbishop of Canterbury urged last month.
St Peter’s Church at Minshull Vernon says it wants to show goodwill to its neighbours who are struggling during hard times in less affluent localities.
One of the organisations to benefit will be the Cheshire Neighbours Credit Union (CNCU).
The move follows comments made by Archbishop Justin Welby who said he wanted to put payday loans out of business by using the Church to build up Britain’s network of credit unions.
Minshull Vernon’s vicar, the Revd Dr Philip Goggin, said church members will decide soon on another credit union to support along with CNCU.
