As part of the fund-raising scheme to support the Medieval church of St Chad's in the Warwickshire village of Bishop's Tachbrook, the local shopkeeper, Mr Manjit Singh has donated £500 towards the upkeep of the Grade One listed building.
Manjit, who runs the Tachbrook Stores, the only general shop in the village is a keen supporter of the church and regularly collects cash for its maintenance
and attends community events.
The £500 cheque was presented on the day of Tachbrook's Church Fete ( Sat 14th) and was handed to Canon Mervyn Roberts, the vicar of St Chad's, and to some young members of the church community.
Speaking about Manjit's donation Mr Roberts said:
‘Here is a grass roots example of real interfaith relations. Manjit's support of our church and community is marvellous. As a practising Sikh he demonstrates his faith's commitment to charitable works and willingness to integrate within this small rural community. He keeps our village shop open for 364 days in the year but respects the Christian tradition of closing on Christmas Day’!
