USPG: Anglicans in World Mission, has been heartened by the response to the call to prayer issued for (27th April 2008) by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York.

The Rt Revd Michael Doe, General Secretary of USPG today said: “USPG: Anglicans in World Mission, as the principal Anglican agency working in the Dioceses of Zimbabwe, has been overwhelmed by the response individuals, parishes and Dioceses are making to the call to prayer.

“We’d like to follow up the Archbishops’ call to ask for the prayers of individuals for the specific needs of those dioceses, and to share some of the good work that is continuing there. USPG has continued to stand by the Anglican Church in Zimbabwe, and its steadfastness is an example to us all.”

For the work in the Diocese of Harare which USPG is doing in partnership with Bishop Sebastian; for the joint work we’re engaged in with Lambeth Palace in the work with small projects; for the Zimbabwe Relief Fund which will be used to pay the stipends of clergy in this and the other Dioceses of Zimbabwe;

For the work in the Diocese of Manicaland: the hospitals, clinics and orphanages run by the Diocese; for students studying under the Theological Education Project, and supported from the UK; for the continued mission and evangelism of the Diocese;

For the work in the Diocese of Masvingo: for the on-going theological education programme; for the Schools feeding programme; for the leadership development programme;

For the Diocese of Central Zimbabwe: for the healthcare programmes in the Diocese; for the agricultural initiatives in the Diocese; for the leadership development programme;

For the Diocese of Matabeleland: its on-going mission programme and leadership training initiatives;

For the on-going support of churches and parishes in this country who, through contributing to our general fund, have enabled us to continue to send our Common Provincial Grant to enable the Dioceses of Zimbabwe (and other parts of the Anglican Communion) to function in these difficult conditions.

Notes to editors:

USPG: Anglicans in World Mission was founded in 1701, and today works in over 60 countries around the world.

Working at the request of Provinces and Dioceses of the Anglican Communion, USPG is the means by which people in Britain and Ireland can give support to churches in other parts of the world. Our support takes the form of direct grants, mission companions and shorter-term volunteers, and scholarships.
