Church leaders and other Christians from across the city will be offering to polish peoples’ shoes free of charge in a modern re-enactment of Jesus washing the feet of his disciples.

The free shoe-shining is part of a three day celebration of Easter due to take place in Coventry’s Upper Precinct from Thursday 20 March to Saturday 22 March. The celebration, called ‘Christ in the Precinct’, has been a feature of Easter in Coventry for 18 years.

In addition to the shoe-cleaning, there will also be live music, face painting and a colouring competition – all free of charge.

This year also sees the launch of the Hope 08 video featuring people from Coventry saying what is their hope or prayer for the city. The video was recorded during Christ in the Precinct last year.

Revd. Roger Morris, Director for Parish Development and Evangelism for the Diocese of Coventry says:

“We want to bless the people of Coventry by offering them something for nothing. We’re not after money. We are not on a recruitment drive. We simply want people to associate the Church with the idea of good things freely given – after all, that is at the heart of the Easter message.”
