Why San Francisco?

San Francisco is an inspiring place to contemplate, explore and interpret to the church the needs, concerns, and hopes of the world. For thousands of years San Francisco has seen cultural changes from the Ohlone Indians to immigrants from around the world that have made this place their home. This city founded by Franciscan Missionaries and named for St. Francis of Assisi has a history that at times has beautifully honored and at others times painfully ignored its patron saints vision and values. The United Nations' Charter was written and signed here and this city is known for its diverse population and communal commitments to peace, justice, and care for the environment. Yet San Francisco is believed to have the highest number of homeless inhabitants per capita of any major city in the United States, violent and property crime are higher than the national average and like much of the globe the gap between the haves and the have nots continues to grow.

What will happen at Camino?

Through provocative workshops, creative worship and an interactive urban pilgrimage focused on global peace and justice --- Camino will ignite your faith, inspire your walk and invigorate your call to seek and serve Christ in others.

With groups from around the country, you will partake in an urban pilgrimage, exploring the cities many contrasts, paradoxes, eccentricities and challenges while discovering sites where the values of the MDGs , Baptismal Covenant and Franciscan Spirituality are being practiced. Come experience the heart, faith, compassion and commitment of this unique place and connect with other young Episcopalians.

Building on the work and consensus of the Young Adult Ministry Network consultations of the last three years, Camino provides an opportunity for even more young adults (18-30) and those designated by their parishes and dioceses as young adult ministers to come together in community and discuss the place of young adults in the church. Visit the Young Adult Ministry Network pages to join the conversation.
