New Suffragan Bishop for the See of Ramsbury

The Queen has approved the nomination of the Venerable Stephen David Conway MA to the Suffragan See of Ramsbury, in the Diocese of Salisbury, in succession to the Right Reverend Peter Fearnley Hullah BD AKC FRS, on his resignation on 29 November 2005.

Stephen Conway (aged 48) trained for ordination at Westcott House Cambridge and he served two curacies, the first at Heworth St Mary, Durham diocese and then at Bishopwearmouth St Michael with St Hilda.  He became Honorary Curate of Durham St Margaret and also Director of Ordinands from 1990 to 1994.  He was Priest in Charge of Cockerton from 1994 to 1996 and Vicar of Cockerton from 1996 to 1998.  He was the Bishop's Senior Chaplain from 1998 to 2002 and also Communications Officer.  He has been the Archdeacon of Durham and Canon Residentiary of Durham Cathedral since 2002.

He is single and his interests include the cinema, eating out with friends, reading modern fiction and political and literary biography, swimming and walking.
