The Church of England Diocese of Chichester has started an initiative to ensure that all church councils within its boundaries declare themselves supporters of Fair Trade. Chichester is following the lead set by Chester, which was declared the UK's first Fair Trade Diocese in March 2003, reports the Spring issue of Chichester Magazine.
Three launch events were held in February across the diocese to tell parishes more about Fair Trade and to explain how they could sign up on official pledge forms. It is hoped that enough pledges will have been made by May 2005 for the Fair Trade award to be made.
