The Mothers' Union (MU) today announced the launch of its first ever music CD, part of a fresh initiative by the charity to reach new supporters. The album will be available in shops throughout the UK and Eire from Monday 9 August.
The record is entitled "The Eternal Collection" and includes 10 songs ranging from classic anthems such as Amazing Grace, Ave Maria and Pie Jesu, to more contemporary material from 'new churches' such as Hillsong, which is based in Australia.
The Eternal Collection is the brainchild of a Mothers' Union manager, Clare Berry, and began on 11 September 2001 when in response to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre, she promptly handed in her notice in the city and began searching for more 'meaningful' employment. Later on a MU pilgrimage tracing the steps to St Paul in Greece, Clare gave an impromptu solo performance and the concept for the album was born.
The album features well known artists like the Actors Equity Choir and individuals such as Miss Berry, who said; "The album has involved two years of hard work but it has been great fun and a real privilege to be involved in such an exciting project. Some real talent can be heard on this CD."
