The Church of England's General Synod in York last weekend voted to petition the British Royal Mail service to keep with a Christian theme for its Christmas issue of stamps each year.
The Royal Mail has produced no Christmas-themed stamps since 2002, and this year's stamps were also to be Christmas-free. Synod passed by a unanimous vote the following motion:Canon Dr Christian Baxter (Southwell) moved:'That this Synod, noting that over 71% of the population of the United Kingdom declared themselves to be Christian in the 2001 Census, request the Royal Mail to issue Christmas stamps with Christian themes every year.
