The Anglican Church of Australia has appointed the Revd Canon Bruce McAteer of Grafton to succeed the retiring General Secretary of the Anglican Church. He will succeed the Revd Dr Bruce Kaye as General Secretary of the Anglican Church.

The Revd Canon Bruce McAteer of Grafton will take up his new position in September 2004, following the retirement of Dr Kaye. Canon McAteer [57] was ordained in 1973 and has served in the Dioceses of Newcastle and Grafton. He is currently General Manager and Registrar in the Grafton Diocese.

"I am delighted to have been offered this opportunity to share my ministry experience with the national Church," Canon McAteer said. "I look forward to the task of serving the Church as it redefines its place in Australian society and faces challenges to its mission."
