Leaders of the Anglican Communion will gather in Canterbury from 1 - 4 March for the annual Standing Committee meeting of the Primates of the Anglican Communion and the Anglican Consultative Council.
The annual meeting is charged with reviewing the work of the Anglican Communion office and setting goals and programme for the coming year. The meeting is preceded by the Inter Anglican Finance Committee meeting chaired by Archbishop Robin Eames of Ireland.
The crowded agenda is expected to include the hearing of reports and the making of recommendations in many areas of Communion life including the proposed Anglican Gathering and the Lambeth Conference 2008 as well as the seeking of a new person to oversee the work of the Communion following the retirement of Canon John L. Peterson as Secretary General at the end of 2004.
Members of the Standing Committee are elected by their fellow ACC members or by fellow Primates to represent the various regions of the Communion. ACC members include laity and clergy (all orders).
The committee will attend the official opening of the new Anglican Communion Office in London on Friday 5 March.
