Special prayers will be said throughout the day in Canterbury Cathedral on Wednesday 11 September 2002 in commemoration of those who died in the United States of America one year ago.
A minute’s Silence will be held at 1.46 pm, the time that the plane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Centre in New York. In addition, the Dean (the Very Revd Robert Willis) will conduct a Eucharist service in the Chapel of Our Lady Undercroft in the Crypt at 2.00 pm. Everyone is most welcome to attend.
Candles will be available throughout the day, together with prayer cards, and there will also be books of condolence in which anyone may express their feelings about the events of 11th September 2001. These will be sent to the US Ambassador in London.
The Dean of Canterbury said today "We are very aware of the warmth and long friendship that the people of the USA have for Canterbury Cathedral. We will keep them in our prayers at this time of remembrance and reflection."
