The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr George Carey, will visit New York next week as part of the observances of the first anniversary of the September 11th attacks in America.
During his private visit, Dr Carey will take part in a service of Choral Evensong being broadcast live from Trinity Church Wall Street. As well as preaching, Dr Carey will be dedicating a bell which is being presented to the City of New York by the Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Michael Oliver, on behalf of the City of London. The service will be attended by representatives from the City of New York and also members of the emergency services.
The Parish of Trinity Church includes the chapel of St Paul's, close to Ground Zero, where many of the rescue workers during the aftermath of the attacks in New York were based.
