The Dean of Canterbury, the Very Revd Robert Willis, said today "I am delighted that the Most Revd Dr Rowan Williams has been chosen by Her Majesty the Queen to succeed Dr George Carey as Archbishop of Canterbury.

As Archbishop of Wales and a Primate of the Anglican Communion, he is already a well-known visitor to Canterbury - he was here for a week in mid April. He will have a wide international ministry and will come with all our prayers and best wishes to join the Cathedral’s family in Canterbury, living in the Cathedral Precincts with his wife, Jane, and children Rhiannon (14) and Pip (6) for part of each year.

"We all look forward to his Enthronement here in the Cathedral early next year in the Chair of St Augustine".
