European University Chaplains to gather at Canterbury Cathedral at Pentecost

The newly built Canterbury Cathedral International Study Centre will welcome the next Conference of European University Chaplains, taking place between 14 and 20 May 2002.

The annual conference has been held in a different European country for over 40 years, and brings together Christian Chaplains serving in University and Tertiary Education ministry from all the major Christian churches across the Continent of Europe.

The theme of the Conference is "Faith, Belonging and Lifestyle - Students in the New Europe" and speakers will include His Grace, The Lord Archbishop of Canterbury, Bishop Graham Cray (Bishop of Maidstone), the Revd Dr Inderjit Bhogal (Methodist Minister and Director of the Urban Theology Unit at Sheffield, England), Monsieur Jerome Vignon (a French Roman Catholic) Principal Adviser to the European Commission, and Mrs Sam Richards (Director of Oxford Youthworks, England).

Conference Co-ordinator, the Revd Jonathan Lloyd (Anglican Chaplain at The University of Bath, England) told ACNS "Ministry amongst students is vital in the life of our Church, and we greatly look forward to meeting in Canterbury at Pentecost to pray and share together as University Chaplains from all corners of Europe and beyond."
