The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr George Carey, has appointed the Revd Jonathan Jennings as his Press Secretary, in succession to Mr Arun Kataria, who is taking up a new appointment at Church House. The moves come as part of a restructuring of communications responsibilities within the National Church Institutions.

The Revd Jonathan Jennings served for five years in parish ministry and local broadcasting in the North East of England then moved to the post of diocesan press and communications officer in Manchester, before moving to London in 1995. Jonathan's move will bring particular specialist skills in electronic and broadcast technology to Lambeth in response to the increasing importance of these media in mass communications.

Arun Kataria is to move to Church House as Senior Media Officer in the Communications Unit with particular responsibility for media monitoring and analysis. Arun has been with the National Church Institutions for twelve years, starting with the Church Commissioners, and has held appointments in press and media relations since 1994, dealing with the full range of media activity. Arun's wide-ranging experience of the national Church will also strengthen the ability of the Communications Unit to handle a broad spectrum of complex issues.

The changes will come into full effect in September.
