People of all shapes and sizes take part in the London Marathon. It is not often that a participant is an ordained clergyman - but a few will be. One such clergyman who will be taking part in the London Marathon 2001 is the Revd Anton Müller.

Fr Anton was ordained in Canterbury Cathedral in July 1999 and is now curate to the Trinity Benefice of Holy Trinity Folkestone with St Paul's Sandgate and St George's Folkestone.

The young priest has run the marathon on two previous occasions raising funds and awareness for world mission agencies CMS and USPG

On this occasion the money raised from Fr Anton's effort is to be donated to CMS and its work amongst refugees and migrant peoples in the world.

He says: "I am very excited about the opportunity to run the Marathon for the third time - and probably the last! 26 miles remains a daunting prospect but it's all worthwhile when considering how much good work is achieved by the funds which are raised - this time I would like to raise 'loads of money', sponsorship at £1000 per mile would raise £26K for this vital work - wouldn't that be great! I would also like to survive the run without injury this time - so far the training is going well and I am just about on schedule."

CMS is an Anglican Mission Agency working in many overseas countries across Africa & Asia, as well as Eastern Europe and the UK. In the UK CMS is developing the Everywhere to Everywhere programme which seeks to bring committed Christian workers from different parts of The Worldwide Church to share in mission projects here in Britain.

Prior to ordination Anton was based at CMS HQ in London and was responsible for the National Team for Education & Training, a division of CMS set up to help local churches bring a world focus to their work with children, young people and adults.
