In light of the multitude of events happening around the world that confront many of our fellow Anglicans, the Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, Canon John L Peterson, is asking the churches of the Communion to be diligent in their prayers and concerns for the following situations, pledging to be advocates for our fellow Anglicans in the various forums of governments and other aid institutions:

  • The collapse of the government and the state of emergency declared in Fiji
  • The renewed bloodshed and inter-religious battles in Kaduna, Nigeria
  • The renewal and massive efforts to stabilise Madagascar and Mozambique following the natural disasters and floods in these countries
  • The delicate negotiations in Northern Ireland for Peace
  • The often precarious position of Christians in the Middle East and for renewed support for the Episcopal Church in those countries
  • An end to violence in Zimbabwe and the racial conflicts that have caused death and destruction
  • Concern for those caught in the throws of fundamentalist cults in Uganda calling themselves Christians

as well as the local concerns and needs of our communities and congregations.

Of your charity, prayers are also asked for Lady Coggan and her family as they mourn the death of Lord Coggan, Archbishop of Canterbury 1974-1980.

May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

And to offer prayers of thanksgiving for the successful Anglican/Roman Catholic Bishops' Consultation recently held in Canada.

To pray for the work of the new Diocese of Angola in the Province of Southern Africa as that ministry is inaugurated in the coming days.
