HRH The Prince of Wales has kindly agreed to open the Lambeth 2000 Exhibition and the renovated Crypt Chapel on Thursday 30th March 2000.
For the first time ever, the Archbishop of Canterbury will open Lambeth Palace on a daily basis to the general public from 1st April until 4th November, as part of the String of Pearls Festival.
The Prince of Wales will be the first visitor to tour the Palace and see the exhibition, Lambeth 2000. This is a professionally designed Exhibition which will explain the role of the Archbishop from St Augustine to the present day. There will also be a special exhibit describing the work of the present Archbishop.
The Archbishop said:
"My wife, Eileen and I are very pleased that The Prince of Wales will be able to join us on 30th March and open the Crypt development and Exhibition. I am sure he will find the Exhibition and the renovation of the Crypt Chapel interesting.
"I am particularly delighted that the general public will see something of this historic place. Lambeth Palace is both the administrative office of the Archbishops down the ages and also our home. It is a very special place, and we are delighted to be able to make it accessible so that people can learn more of its historic role."
Notes for editors:Press arrangements for the visit will be confirmed nearer the date.
