The following notice has come through to us from Lambeth Palace:

"Media reports based on unauthorised extracts, taken out of context, from an unpublished book by the Archbishop of Canterbury have suggested that Dr Carey is questioning the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

"That suggestion is entirely and demonstrably false. In the book Dr Carey says clearly and explicitly: "I firmly believe that God raised Jesus from the dead."

"Indeed, far from doubting the resurrection, in the book, Dr Carey places it at the very heart of Christian experience and meaning."

Jesus 2000 is due to be published in September.

We at ACNS encourage archbishops, bishops, clergy, and lay people in our dioceses to share this press release with any newspaper or news service in your area that has published a report saying anything to the contrary. Lambeth Palace is seeking redress from the newspaper in the UK that published the original story. Our thanks to those of you who have reported back to ACNS for clarification.
