The Archbishop of Cape Town the Most Revd Njongonkulu Ndungane will undertake an ecumenical visitation to the churches in Germany at the invitation of the German Evangelical Church (EKD).
The Archbishop leaves Cape Town on 21 April for a ten day visit during which he will meet with Roman Catholic, Lutheran and EKD Church leaders.
The visit coincides with the 5th Anniversary of Freedom Day in South Africa 27 April, and Archbishop Njongonkulu will be delivering a keynote address at a meeting in Bremen at which the overall theme will be " Five Years of the New South Africa: Analysis, Hope and Challenges".
The Archbishop will also be addressing various forums on the International Debt Crisis and this comes significantly before the G8 Summit in Cologne on 19 June.
Archbishop Ndungane continues to champion the cause of the Jubilee 2000 Campaign which proposes remission of the unpayable debts owed by highly indebted poor countries to commercial banks, creditor governments and multi-lateral bodies such as the IMF, the World Bank and Regional Development Banks.
Archbishop Ndungane will participate in a Liturgical Celebration in Berlin, during which The Dietrich Bonhoeffer Prize will be received by Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu on behalf of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of South Africa.
The Archbishop returns to Cape Town on 1 May.
