(CT) Church organisations have been criticised for continuing to invest in arms companies. The Campaign Against Arms Trade has compiled a dossier of seven arms exporters and the groups that hold shares in them.
It found that the Church invests £52 million in the companies, with £47 million worth of shares owned by the Church Commissioners, the Central Board of Finance and the Pensions Board of the Church of England. Although the Church Commissioners' policy is not to invest in any company whose main business is in armaments many companies have a wide range of interests of which the armaments business may be part of.
