(ENI)Parts of the Bible were translated into 30 additional languages last year, bringing to 2197 the total number of languages in which Scriptures are available.

The figures, given by the United Bible Societies (UBS) in its 1997 Scripture Language Report, are for portions (at least one book of Scripture), testaments or Bibles in printed form.

The full Bible is available in 363 languages, including the constructed languages of Esperanto, Volapuk and Interlingua (version 1). The UBS, whose member Bible societies around the world are responsible for a big proportion of the Scripture translations, have no prospect of running out of things to do: there are an estimated 6000 languages in the world.
