More than £15 million has been awarded to church projects including cathedrals, churches, church halls and community centres by the Millennium Commission. St Edmundsbury Cathedral will receive £5.1 million for restoration; Southwark Cathedral £3.9 million; and Bradford Cathedral has been awarded £2.2 million in order to build a national faith centre. A civic project in Coventry has won £10.2 million. This includes building a Millennium Boulevard which will link the Cathedral, Holy Trinity Church and the Priory Place.
The plan in Bradford is to convert St Peter's House, a former post office next to the Cathedral, to house three interactive exhibitions of spiritual life in the diocese. Although emphasis will be laid on the Christian faith, the centre is to reflect the other religions which are important to Bradford.
