Last week the British Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown, paid tribute to the Churches' work with and for the unemployed in Britain. The Chancellor paid a visit to the launch of a study pack and video on the Churches' report - Unemployment and the Future of Work which was launched in April (See ACNS Churches Issue Hard Hitting Report on Unemployment).

The Chancellor thanked the Churches for a hard-hitting report and for their struggle every day of the week for the poorest communities hit by high unemployment in Britain. He asked all Church members to join a crusade to tackle unemployment and to continue to challenge society. He urged the Churches to help change the climate of opinion that argued that unemployment was inevitable.
