Member Churches of the World Council of Churches met in Geneva on 6 May to share their plans for celebrating the Millennium. This was the second information sharing meeting organised by the WCC and it drew together representatives of the Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Protestant and Anglican Churches. The Revd Canon David Hamid, the Director for Ecumenical Affairs for the Anglican Communion Office, spoke about Anglican initiatives for the Millennium at the meeting.
Plans for Churches celebrating the Millennium are wide-ranging. Many Churches are working ecumenically with national initiatives. There are also plans for some international ventures including - Pilgrimage 2000. This will be a walk through Europe from Trondheim in Norway to Sarajevo between Pentecost 2000 and Easter 20001. There are also hopes that it might be possible to organise an international gathering of Churches in Jerusalem for the Millennium and this is under exploration by the WCC.
