The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Revd Dr George Carey, is the subject of a television documentary which will be shown in Britain next month. The documentary will be shown on the independent television network and sets out to show the public and the private life of Dr Carey. "Above all the series shows, he is a man of unshakeable faith, with a determination to make the Church face up to the realities of the end of the 20th century," says Kate Watson-Smyth in The Independent newspaper.
In addition to revealing that Mrs Eileen Carey is a better Scrabble player than the Archbishop, the programme also shows the inner reserves of the Primate: "Despite being troubled by what he perceives as society's moral shortcomings and frequently depressed by his portrayal in the media, he is still able to draw on 'an inner reservoir of cheerfulness'. 'You have to say - don't worry about it, that will one day be forgotten'. What really matters is your own integrity, what you believe in.'"
