A recent meeting in London claimed that discrimination against women priests is rife in the Church of England. Those attending the meeting discussed the possibility of reactivating the former Movement for the Ordination of Women.
Many people at the meeting were keen to get a new organisation formed to serve lay and ordained women. The difficulty of women priests getting parish posts was highlighted at the meeting and the jobs issue is likely to be the first priority of any new forum.
Christina Rees, a General Synod representative who was present, said that the mood of the meeting was that women bishops were needed to give a more balanced Church but it was hoped that this development would occur naturally rather than having to be lobbied for.
