The Rt Revd James Ayong, the Bishop Aipo Rongo, has been elected the new Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Papua New Guinea (PNG) by the Provincial Council. He will succeed the Most Revd Bevan Meredith who has retired.
The Very Revd Dr Richard Lionel Clarke, Dean of Cork, his been elected Bishop of Meath and Kildare, Church of Ireland. He will succeed the Rt Revd Walton Empey who has become Archbishop of Dublin.
The Ven Masimango Katanda has been elected the first bishop of the new Diocese of Kindu, Church of the Province of Zaire.
The Revd Frank Neff Powell, Executive Assistant to the Bishop of the Diocese of Oregon, has been elected Bishop of Southwestern Virginia, ECUSA. He will succeed the Rt Revd Heath Light who is retiring.
The Rt Revd Winston Njongonkulu Ndungane, the Bishop of Kimberley and Kuruman, has been elected Archbishop of Cape Town and becomes the new Primate of the Church of the Province of Southern Africa. He succeeds the Most Revd Desmond Tutu who has retired from the post and now heads the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
The Rt Revd Ignacio Capuyan Soliba has been chosen as third Prime Bishop of the Episcopal Church in the Philippines at the Church's June Synod. he will be installed early next year upon the retirement of the Most Revd Narcisco Ticobay.
