The Anglican Archbishop of Sydney, the Most Revd Harry Goodhew, has called for uniform national gun legislation following the horrendous massacre in Port Arthur, Tasmania.

"Surely we need no further evidence for our legislators to realise the urgent necessity for strong firearms legislation to ensure reasonable, prudent gun control in this country. How many other potential bloodbaths are waiting round the corner for the people of our Australian community to face, before our Parliaments will act?", said the Archbishop.

"When the present amnesty in this state concludes in June our New South Wales Parliament should seize the opportunity to review current firearm legislation. When next the State Premiers meet, the Premier of this State must urge uniform legislation across Australia." He then made suggestions about what prudent legislation should include.
