A high profile international delegation visited Britain in February to join in a campaign to end international debt. The Debt Crisis Network is an alliance of 45 non-Governmental organisations, 12 of which are groups with Church connections. The former President of Zambia, Dr Kenneth Kaunda, was accompanied by the Rt Revd Khotso Makhulu, the Anglican Archbishop of Central Africa, Professor Adebayo Adedeji, Professor Bade Onimode and Dr Simba Makoni who all came to Britain to take part in a series of high-level meetings with representatives of the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the UK Treasury as well as MPs, financiers and Church leaders.
Dr Kaunda spoke about what such debt means: "Africa today needs resources for its very survival. Africa's creditors are taking African lives in pledge of the debt. That is not moral. That is not right. That is not fair."
