Churches Together in England, Action of Churches Together in Scotland and Churches Together in Wales (CYTUN) and the Council of Churches for Britain and Ireland backed an Irish Council of Churches a postcard initiative against the return of violence that appeared to be signalled by the bomb explosion in the Isle of Dogs in February. Christians of all denominations were urged to send a postcard or an envelope to 'No more Violence' at an address in Northern Ireland to create a strong statement against any return to violence.
Leaders of the Four Main Churches in Ireland have called for a day of prayer on Sunday 10 March. They have asked that prayers for a lasting peace in Ireland and England and for those involved in the political process should be offered in all Presbyterian, Roman Catholic, Church of Ireland and Methodist parishes on that day. They have also asked their people to regard 10 March as an opportunity to pray that all who have great responsibilities in seeking a political settlement will be guided by the Spirit of God.
The call is issued by Cardinal Cahal B Daly, the Right Revd Dr John Ross (Moderator of the General Assembly), Archbishop Robin Eames (Anglican), and Revd Christopher Walpole (President of the Methodist Church in Ireland).
