Archbishop of Canterbury's Greeting after the signing of the Porvoo Agreement

Today is, truly, a day for great celebration. The first of three such celebrations that will take place this Autumn. I am sure that all of us here this evening felt that we were participating in something truly historic - we are all very grateful to the Church of Norway for their splendid hospitality here in Trondheim and for the wonderful service in which we have all just shared.

Kuwait: Christian Fears For His Life

A Kuwaiti convert to Christianity, Robert Hussein, fears for his life after an Islamic court branded him an 'apostate'. Mr Hussein received death treats after speaking publicly about his conversion and was convicted by an Islamic court in in June of being an apostate who, under shari'a law, 'should be killed'.

Church leaders have failed to soften the British Government's Asylum and Immigration Bill. Despite an amendment passed in the House of Lords on 1 July with the backing of several bishops to soften the bill, this amendment was overturned by the House of Commons.

The UK's leading overseas aid and environmental agencies have formed a new alliance in a new campaign to support overseas aid. They launched a `Manifesto for Aid' in July which has attracted the support from a powerful alliance of business, the medical establishment, trade unions and academic.

England: New Proposals for Anglican/Methodist Talks

An Anglican/Methodist Group co-chaired by the Bishop of Grimsby, the Rt Revd David Tustin, and the Secretary of the Methodist Conference, the Revd Brian Beck, have recommended that a new unity scheme for the two Churches should be attempted.

Europe Joint Anglican/Lutheran Hymn Book Planned

Work is underway to produce a small collection of hymns from the Churches involved in the Porvoo Agreement to help in celebrating the Anglican and Lutheran traditions of northern Europe.
