People unfamiliar with the historical, architectural and religious landscape of Moscow are often puzzled by the sight of a distinctly Western-looking, neo-Gothic, dark-red brick church in a quiet street in the centre of the city, flanked by two typical Russian Orthodox churches.

Ordinations of the first women priests in the Church in Wales took place last weekend. Services took place in the Cathedrals of St Asaph, Bangor, St David's, Monmouth and Llandaff on Saturday 11 January, and in St Asaph's (a second service) again and Brecon on 12 January. A total of 64 women were ordained priests over the weekend with more ordinations later in the month.

The Rt Revd Ghais Malik, Bishop of Egypt and North Africa, has been elected the new President Bishop of the Episcopal Church in of Jerusalem and the Middle East. He succeeds the Most Revd Samir Kafity who is retiring. The election was made on 25th November at a Central Synod of the Province in Cyprus.

On 1 October two missionary traditions were brought together to form the United College of the Ascension in Selly Oak, Birmingham. The coming together of the Methodists and the Anglican United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel (Anglican) in a United College has taken a number of years. Many Anglican leaders from around the world have trained at the College of the Ascension and recently the College has become pivotal for the new Centre for Anglican Communion Studies.

The Church of England Synod meeting in November unanimously endorsed the Jubilee 2000 campaign. This is a campaign to persuade the world's banks and governments to remit the unpayable debts of 40 of the world's poorest countries in recognition of the millennium.

Women representing 14 provinces of the Anglican Communion met at the Mothers' Union headquarters in London in November and decided to form a women's network for the world Church.

The General Synod of the Church of England is to consider a new system for dealing with complaints against clergy. Under Authority - Report on Clergy Discipline is published today by the Working Party reviewing Clergy Discipline and the Working of the Ecclesiastical Courts and will be considered at the General Synod meeting later this month. (Synod meets week of 25th Nov).
