Anglican Archbishops meet with Coptic Pope and Grand Imam of Al-Azhar

In significant meetings in Cairo last week alliances were formed for peace between Muslims and Christians in Sudan, South Sudan and Malaysia. The Primate of Jerusalem and the Middle East, Archbishop Mouneer Anis, organised meetings between Anglican leaders and the Grand Iman of Al-Azhar – the renowned Islamic university, mosque and centre in Cairo – and the Coptic Pope.

Church of England steps up fight against human trafficking

The C of E is setting up a network of champions to work alongside police forces and statutory and non-statutory agencies to support victims of human trafficking. Last year more than 2,300 people were identified as victims of trafficking in the UK from more than 96 different countries. That figure is set to rise following the coming into force of the new Modern Slavery Act which creates new offences and sets out a number of measures to protect victims.

Refugee movement is "largest crisis that Europe has had to face since World War II"

The refugee crisis in Europe is the “largest crisis that Europe has had to face since World War II,” the Church of England’s suffragan Bishop of Europe, the Rt Revd David Hamid, told ACNS this week. And the bishop warned that churches, governments and agencies need to prepare for a “medium- to long-term situation” that is “not going to go away quickly.”

Lawyer appointed to chair board of Episcopal Relief and Development

A leading US lawyer, Daniel McNeel Lane Jr (Neel), has been appointed as the new chair of the Board of Directors of the Episcopal Church in America’s development agency, Episcopal Relief & Development (ERD). The agency works with more than three million people in nearly 40 countries worldwide to overcome poverty, hunger and disease.
