Anglican and Episcopal women at UN Commission on the Status of Women

A major international gathering of women is taking place in New York as the UN Commission on the Status of Women hears from communities around the globe on issues of sustainable development and gender-based violence. Amongst those taking part in the event are 22 Anglican women from 18 provinces.

Draft programme for Anglican Consultative Council meeting published

Anglican Bishops, priests and laity from across the world will gather in Lusaka next month for the 16th meeting of the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC-16). Members will discuss a range of issues around the theme “Intentional discipleship in a world of difference” – how Christians can be faithful to the Gospel in all aspects of their lives in the different cultures and situations that Anglicans find themselves in.

Churches in South America have been growing at a phenomenal rate, but, according to the Bishop of Peru, the Rt Revd Bill Godfrey, and his team of lay workers, there has been a gap. “If you ask the average person in Peru if they are a Christian, the majority will say they are, but how that makes a difference in their day to day lives is much more limited,” says lay worker Paul Tester.

Canada: Bishops' statement ahead of Synod's same-sex marriage vote

A draft resolution to change Canada’s Marriage Canon to accommodate the marriage of same-sex partners is not likely to pass in the Order of Bishops by the required 2/3rds majority, the House of Bishops have said in a statement.
