Francisco José Duque Gómez was consecrated bishop coadjutor of the Diocese of Colombia at St. Alban's Church, Bogotá on July 14, 2001. Duque, a member of the Episcopal Church's Executive Council, is the first Colombian "cradle Episcopalian" to be elected to lead the diocese, and its fourth bishop. He was elected on February 2, 2001 by unanimous vote in both the lay and clergy orders.

Bishop Michael Ingham of New Westminster has apologized to gay and lesbian Anglicans for how slowly the church is moving on deciding how to minister to them. The apology came during a General Synod presentation on sexuality, particularly how to give pastoral care to gays and lesbians.

Bishop Gordon Beardy of Keewatin formally forgave the church for its past dealings with indigenous peoples at a native healing ceremony during the meeting of the General Synod. The forgiveness comes eight years after the Primate, Archbishop Michael Peers, apologized on behalf of the church for its part in the residential school system.
