Anglican bishops from across southern Africa have resolved that gay and lesbian partners who enter same-sex civil unions under South African law should be welcomed into congregations as full members of the church. A document outlining guidelines on members living in same-sex unions will be sent to the church’s ruling body, which meets this year.

Three West African bishops have briefed members of the Church of England’s General Synod this week on the Ebola crisis and the role played by the church in tackling it. The Bishops of Bo, Freetown, and Guinea were joined by representatives from the Anglican mission agency United Society and the Anglican Alliance.
